The End of a Decade

Remember when “2020” sounded so futuristic? It sounded so far away, so distant. When the clocks hit midnight, I actually stared at the date for a few seconds because it didn’t seem like it was 2020 already. Where has the time gone?

I’ve seen a few of my friends on Instagram post the things that have happened over the last decade. While this isn’t everything that happened, it’s a pretty good look into the past ten years of my life. I enjoyed reflecting on these, and I hope this will be of some interest to you as well!



  • Had some of the best teachers I’ve ever had
  • Visited and applied for colleges
  • Skipped Junior Prom and went to Six Flags with my friends instead
  • Watched my mom get remarried and I gained one stepbrother
  • Woke up before the sun and went to the Philadelphia Thanksgiving Day Parade
  • Was accepted into my first-choice college for their Interior Design program



  • Got my first job at Rita’s and got to work with a lot of my friends
  • Went to Senior Prom with my four best friends
  • Graduated high school
  • Spent a week in Ocean City, NJ with my friends
  • Watched my dad get remarried and I gained three stepbrothers
  • Packed up my belongings and moved to Philadelphia for college
  • Learned the struggles of having a roommate



  • Got my first car
  • Went on a camping and biking trip with my parents and brother in Virginia
  • Went to trivia night every Tuesday at Applebees and dominated with my friends
  • Survived a year that I didn’t think I was going to survive
  • Went to a few therapy sessions and started taking medication
  • Learned the importance of keeping those you love close



  • Got a tattoo
  • Went to the Outer Banks for a week with my whole family
  • Visited my best friend over the summer and saw Fallingwater
  • Moved into my first apartment off-campus
  • Started to learn how to embrace my new “normal”
  • Left my first job and transferred to a new location



  • Had a tree fall on top of my car during an ice storm
  • Got a used car
  • Celebrated my 21st birthday at Dave & Busters
  • Moved into a slightly bigger apartment
  • Stopped taking medication
  • Left my job at Rita’s
  • Started a job at IKEA
  • Learned how to knit



  • Left IKEA and started a job at SAP
  • Completed my thesis project
  • Graduated college
  • Lost my grandfather to his battle with cancer
  • Tried to learn how to play the keyboard
  • Started to eat healthier and work out daily
  • Warily entered the online dating scene
  • Got into a car accident
  • Learned that it’s okay to not be great at everything



  • Traveled to Iceland with my parents and brother
  • Started a new job
  • Went to my brother’s high school graduation
  • Started this blog (my first attempt, anyway)
  • Moved from Philadelphia to the suburbs
  • Bought a new car
  • Designed a website for my parents’ new Bed & Breakfast







  • Started to take online courses through Coursera
  • Reconnected with old friends
  • Went to Quebec City with my dad where we went snowmobiling and dogsledding
  • Went to Ireland with my parents and brother
  • Started to learn German
  • Bought a house and moved to the middle of nowhere
  • Hosted my first Thanksgiving
