30 Before 30: A Bucket List

I’m a lover of lists and a lover of setting goals for myself. I find that they help keep me on track, and there is something so satisfying about crossing things off once they are completed. (Does anyone else create a list and add things they’ve already completed just to gain the satisfaction of crossing them off?)

Yesterday, I saw a post by Chaz on Unlunacy where she wrote a list of 30 things she wanted to accomplish before the age of 30. I absolutely loved the idea, and the goals she had set for herself as well.

I feel like 30 is scarily right around the corner for me, even though it may not look like it. I turned 25 earlier this year, but it feels like each year goes by faster than the last. And in an attempt to keep 30 at bay for a little while longer, here are 30 reasonably tangible goals that I’m setting for myself before that day comes.

  1. Become fluent in Spanish and German
  2. Adopt a dog
  3. Learn to cook
  4. Visit a new continent
  5. Make a piece of furniture
  6. Pay off my student loans
  7. Buy a home
  8. Compile a list of family recipes
  9. Meet a guy who loves me at my best and worst
  10. Complete a home renovation
  11. Host a game night with friends
  12. Learn to love myself
  13. Self publish a book
  14. Go on a solo trip
  15. Take an online class
  16. Visit a national park on the west coast
  17. Learn how to sew
  18. Plant a flower garden
  19. Go to a new country with my dad
  20. Take a girl’s trip with my mom
  21. Go ziplining
  22. Learn to play piano
  23. Get engaged
  24. Go to a blogging event
  25. Host a dinner party
  26. Spend a weekend in Big Sur
  27. Get another tattoo
  28. Stargaze out west
  29. Stop overthinking
  30. Go ice skating during the holidays

What goals do you have for yourself before your next big milestone?

  1. Love this! Don’t worry, you’re not the only one to list things you’ve already done just to cross them off.. it is just so satisfying! I won’t bore you with my entire list, but my top 3 goals to complete by the time I am 30 is to buy a house, pay off our cars, and have a good chunk of our student loans paid off!

  2. Well, I’m a bit past 30 but still have many things on my bucket list! I really want to go SCUBA diving on the Great Barrier Reef in Australia, do one of those trips where you go in the cage under water to see great white sharks, and I also want to skydiving – but am waiting until after my youngest graduates and moves out for that one!

  3. Good one! I’m a list maker for everything and I even have a notebook for lists and random thoughts lol. I remember my before 30 list just recently…get engaged and married. That didn’t work out and I felt so useless. Thankfully, I got over that and told myself not to make hard and fast life lists in case they don’t get fulfilled in the time frame I want. I’ve done about 1/3 of your list. Solo travel I did this year and ziplining last year.

    1. I’m going to try not to get too bummed if some of these don’t happen in the next five years. Some of them are out of my control. But the fact that you’ve traveled solo and went zip lining is awesome!

  4. Good for you! Keep on reaching your goals. Too bad I was not able to set goals like these for myself when I was younger. And the one thing that I was not able to do is buy my own house . 😦

  5. Great list – I love how theres a mixture of fun and serious milestone points to it – it sounds like you’ve got a plan! I relaly think its important to grab life with both hands and just jump into things you want to do, life passes by way too quickly! I’m 30 next year eeeeeek.
